5 areas in which your child will level up at SkillFest 2025

The much-anticipated holiday programme returns, packed with fresh experiences designed to build confidence, spark curiosity and shape future-ready kids.

What if your child could unlock leadership skills, boost their confidence, and sharpen their critical thinking all while climbing walls, cracking codes, and kayaking with new friends?

This June, SkillFest 2025 is back to turn the school holidays into an unforgettable adventure. Tailored for kids aged 8 to 12, the programme blends purposeful learning with non-stop fun, anchored around five key domains: L.I.F.E. skills, social and emotional skills, athletic skills, outdoor adventure skills, and S.T.E.A.M. skills. Hosted across three HomeTeamNS clubhouses — Khatib, Bukit Batok and Bedok Reservoir — SkillFest empowers kids to push their limits, forge new friendships and shine in their own unique way.

Whether you opt for a single-day session or the full three-day experience, here are five invaluable skills your child will walk away with.

#1 LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK (L.I.F.E. SKILLS)

Day 1 kicks off with activities that spark leadership, collaboration and creative thinking — the building blocks of L.I.F.E. (Leadership, Innovator, Friendship, Empowerment) skills. Through team challenges, kids learn to understand group dynamics, step into roles that suit their strengths and contribute meaningfully in different situations.

At TactSim’s escape rooms, children must work together to crack codes, unlock doors and hit magnetic targets. With a range of puzzles to tackle, each child gets the chance to lead, collaborate and support one another — building confidence in communication, decision-making and problem-solving along the way.

#2 CRITICAL THINKING AND CURIOSITY (S.T.E.A.M. SKILLS)

SkillFest is a haven for curious minds and young tinkerers. Across the first two days, kids are invited to explore the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) through hands-on, discovery-led play.

At Adventure HQ, they’ll get to construct magnetic toy cars and investigate circuits in motion, even becoming “climbing detectives” as they scale the Fun Wall to solve clues. Then it’s off to T-Play Khatib, where they can create magnetic fishing rods and use these to interact with the environment — transforming playtime into an immersive lesson in physics.

On Day 2, things get more tactical. At T-Play Bukit Batok, kids become secret agents, decoding Morse code and navigating the playground as if in a live-action mission. These experiences not only sharpen logic and spatial awareness, but also nurture a lifelong curiosity for how the world works.

#3 PROBLEM-SOLVING AND RESOURCEFULNESS (OUTDOOR SKILLS)

Getting kids off screens isn’t always easy — but hands-on challenges and real-world problem-solving can spark a lasting love for learning by doing.

At HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok, four outdoor stations await on Day 2, each designed to build survival skills and practical smarts. With guidance from trained professionals, kids will learn to build a fire, master a slingshot, explore electrical circuits and craft a DIY grabber. Each task fosters resourcefulness, adaptability and a hunger to keep exploring — long after camp ends.

#4 STRENGTH, ENDURANCE AND CONFIDENCE (ATHLETIC SKILLS)

Building physical confidence is just as vital as developing mental resilience — and Day 3 brings the energy with high-octane challenges at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir.

At Action Motion, kids take on obstacle courses that test their strength, agility and stamina. They’ll run, jump, balance and climb through gamified missions, and can race others or try to beat their own best times. Every leap and scramble builds self-belief, showing them how capable they are when they keep pushing forward. Whether by helping a friend over a wall or conquering their own nerves, they’ll leave stronger in body and bolder in spirit.

#5 SOCIAL CONNECTIONS AND EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE (SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS)

Beyond the thrills, SkillFest also nurtures emotional intelligence — helping kids connect, communicate and build meaningful bonds as they work towards shared goals.

Across all three days, children team up for challenges, buddy up for missions and celebrate wins together — fostering empathy, trust and a strong sense of belonging. It all culminates in a final kayaking session on Day 3 at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir’s swimming pool, where paddling in sync becomes a memorable lesson in teamwork, coordination and mutual support.

Let the adventures begin at Skillfest 2025, happening from 3 to 5 June, 9am to 6pm daily at HomeTeamNS Khatib, Bukit Batok and Bedok Reservoir. Choose a single day of activities or go all in with a value-packed three-day bundle. All participants will receive a programme shirt, activity booklet, and enjoy lunch and snacks provided.

The Balancing Act: Here’s How This Mum Navigates Career and Family

This Mother’s Day, HomeTeamNS Management Committee Assistant Treasurer Ms Kee Mui Hoon reflects on how being a mother has empowered her professionally and personally.

When it comes to juggling parenting, work, and volunteering commitments, mothers often have a unique advantage. Just ask Ms Kee Mui Hoon — mother of three, who is the Assistant Treasurer of the HomeTeamNS Management Committee as well as Deputy Director of Administration and Finance in the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

Far from holding her back, motherhood has strengthened her ability to lead and contribute meaningfully. “Rather than limiting my career aspirations, it equipped me with invaluable skills like time management, efficiency, adaptability, and resilience,” she shares. “These have enhanced my capabilities at work and beyond.”

IT TAKES A TEAM TO EXCEL — AT HOME AND AT HOMETEAMNS

Mui Hoon, who joined the Home Team in 2000, has spent over two decades contributing to meaningful initiatives across the SPF and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Her work spans policy, operations, and transformation efforts that have strengthened national service, supported frontline operations, and improved healthcare delivery within the Home Team.

At HomeTeamNS, she brings the same dedication to her role as Assistant Treasurer of the Management Committee. Drawing on her financial expertise, she ensures good financial governance in procurement and payment processes. Her attention to detail and drive for accountability earned her the Meritorious – Bronze Award at the 2025 HomeTeamNS Awards.

For Mui Hoon, the sense of purpose is amplified by the people she works with. “The Home Team NSmen’s unwavering commitment to giving back to the community is a constant source of inspiration,” she says. “The professionalism, positive attitude, and dedication of the HomeTeamNS staff make our collaborative efforts both effective and enjoyable.”

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MS KEE MUI HOON’S HOME TEAM JOURNEY

  • Shaping National Service Policy: Supported the Committee to Strengthen National Service, working with MINDEF to enhance the NS system for greater impact and relevance.
  • Honouring NS Contributions: Helped organise NS45 and NS50 commemorative events to celebrate the dedication and sacrifices of Singapore’s NSmen.
  • Driving Cost-Saving Innovation: Successfully secured competitive insurance premium rates in the 2016 joint MINDEF–MHA Insurance tender — benefiting officers, NSmen and volunteers.
  • Enhancing Medical Operations: Operationalised the outsourcing of the Home Team medical centres, enabling the redeployment of SCDF medics and NSF Medical Officers to operational roles — supporting the expansion of SCDF ambulance services.
  • Strengthening Pandemic Response:  Part of the MHA team that set up in-situ vaccination centres and managed mass swab testing across Home Team training schools — helping to protect officer health and sustain operational readiness during COVID-19.
  • Building Leadership Through Service:  Gained extensive experience in strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and change management through cross-agency collaborations and major transformation projects.

Her appreciation for strong partnerships also extends to her personal life. She credits her husband as an unwavering pillar of support throughout their marriage — especially during the early years of raising their children while building their careers.

Though their children are older now, she still remembers the whirlwind of morning routines, school drop-offs, chores, homework checks and late-night work sessions. “It felt overwhelming and demanding then, but together we shared the load and conquered it all,” she recalls. “It was a truly satisfying and fulfilling journey.”

One strategy that worked well for the couple was taking turns to step up whenever the other had urgent work commitments. This mutual support allowed both to stay committed to both their careers and their children — while making the most of every moment together.

“Since becoming a mother, I’ve developed the ability to maximise every minute of my day,” she adds. “I’ve had to be incredibly focused and task-driven at work and at home. The limited hours in a day have made me more efficient and productive.”

INSTILLING THE SAME VALUES IN THE NEXT GENERATION

As a mother of three young adults, Mui Hoon hopes her children will continue to grow into individuals who care for others and contribute positively to their communities.

This spirit of community is reflected in the family-friendly facilities and programmes at HomeTeamNS clubhouses. Mui Hoon views them as truly special spaces that bring families together in meaningful ways. “From the exciting adventure and water play facilities that light up children’s faces, to fitness courses for all ages, and cosy dining spots for family meals, there’s something for everyone,” she explains.

Mui Hoon adds that the clubhouses also foster a unique sense of community among HomeTeamNS families who share similar experiences and values. “It’s heartwarming to see children making friends while their parents connect, creating an extended family atmosphere that makes each visit special.”

A MOTHER’S DAY MESSAGE FROM THE HEART

While balancing motherhood, career, and community service has had its challenges, Mui Hoon finds it incredibly rewarding. She shares this heartfelt message for fellow working mums: “Here’s to all of us who are doing our best at work and cherishing those special moments with family, whether it’s celebrating our children’s milestones, enjoying dinner together, or simply being present for those small but meaningful everyday moments that make everything worthwhile.”

Celebrate Mother’s Day at HomeTeamNS! Join us for a weekend filled with meaningful experiences. Enjoy hands-on craft workshops, heartfelt card making, energetic Zumba sessions, and fun-filled games. Raising the bar: HomeTeamNS celebrates two decades of milestones

From groundbreaking state-of-the-art facilities to augmented members benefits, HomeTeamNS’ 20-year journey has been marked by groundbreaking ‘firsts’ that showcase its growth and evolution.

Since its formation in 2005, HomeTeamNS has continuously evolved to serve and engage its members. Born from the merger of the Civil Defence Association for National Servicemen (CDANS) and the Singapore Police Association for National Servicemen (SPANS), the organisation has grown into a vibrant community with three full-fledged clubhouses and over 270,000 members.

Through the years, HomeTeamNS has introduced numerous pioneering features — from adventure and fitness innovations to digital services — creating meaningful experiences for its members. Here’s a look at some of the defining moments that have shaped its journey.

HomeTeamNS was officially launched on 24 April 2005 by then-Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng (fourth from right), at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok. This marked the start of a united effort to create recreational and community-building opportunities for Home Team NSmen.

HomeTeamNS’ long-running and signature annual running event, REAL® Run saw 10,000 participants in 2009 taking on different terrains to test their individual limits and endurance. This was one of the highest turnouts in the race’s history.

HomeTeamNS inked a Memorandum of Understanding with People’s Association in 2012 to expand membership benefits to all HomeTeamNS members with a HomeTeamNS-PAssion co-brand membership card!

In 2015, HomeTeamNS introduced its first indoor children’s playground, T-Play at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok. Designed with an interactive transportation theme, this dynamic play space does more than entertain — it also helps young children develop motor skills and creativity.

A group of SCDF NSmen (Unit: SCDF 17FS ORNS) took part in one of the earliest Cohesion Programmes at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok Adventure Centre on 7 January 2015, engaging in high-energy team challenges such as Laser Quest, paintball and obstacle courses. Launched in November 2014, HomeTeamNS cohesion programmes were designed to strengthen camaraderie and reinforce the Home Team spirit, fostering teamwork beyond operational duties.

The official opening of HomeTeamNS Tampines — the organisation’s first satellite clubhouse — on 13 February 2017 was made even more exciting with the launch of Singapore’s first indoor climbing theme park, Clip N Climb. Minister K Shanmugam (fourth from right) officiated the official opening of the clubhouse, which featured 19 unique climbing challenges built to accommodate climbers of all ages and skill levels, supporting weights of up to 150kg — the size of an adult giant panda! The closure of HomeTeamNS Tampines as a satellite clubhouse on 17 July 2022 marked the transition to the second full-fledged ground-up HomeTeamNS clubhouse at Bedok Reservoir Park, that offers even more exciting facilities and programmes for its members.

HomeTeamNS became the first member club in Singapore to introduce a Group Personal Accident Plan in partnership with AXA, offering Ordinary Members $30,000 in personal accident coverage. Announced by Mrs Josephine Teo, now Minister for Digital Development and Information & Second Minister for Home Affairs, during a Family Day event at Universal Studios Singapore on 23 June 2018, the initiative reinforced HomeTeamNS’ commitment to member welfare. Mrs Teo was the first female President of HomeTeamNS, serving from 2017 to 2020.

Everyday (Her)oes, a HomeTeamNS initiative, was launched on 12 May 2019 (Mother’s Day) to recognise the contributions of Home Team NSmen’s wives and mothers towards national service. Family members play an integral role in sharing responsibilities and balancing duty to the family and country when the NSman answers the call of duty. This also marked the start of expanding benefits for Home Team NSmen’s family members.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Adventure HQ, Singapore’s first and largest multi-installation indoor adventure centre, opened its doors on 22 October 2020. HomeTeamNS President, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, and HomeTeamNS Chief Executive Agnes Eu officiated the launch, unveiling a range of thrilling attractions — including a 14m-high slide, rock walls and an artificial caving system — designed to challenge and excite adventure seekers.

Minister K Shanmugam placing the final LEGO brick on the HomeTeamNS Khatib model during its official opening ceremony on 10 April 2021. The state-of-the-art clubhouse became HomeTeamNS’ first ground-up SMART clubhouse, integrating technology for seamless access to facilities and services.

Keeping members connected and informed, HomeTeamNS transformed its magazine, Frontline, from a physical magazine to a fully digital magazine in 2021. The online platform provides news, features and updates, allowing members to stay engaged anytime, anywhere.

Nestled by the scenic Bedok Reservoir, HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir made its debut on 4 January 2023, becoming Singapore’s first clubhouse with a waterfront view and HomeTeamNS’ second ground up full-fledged clubhouse. During the launch, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim (first from left) and Minister K Shanmugam (middle) toured the facility, stopping by a feature wall displaying scale models of Home Team vehicles.

HomeTeamNS kicked off its full digital transformation in 2020 to encourage the self-help experience for members and patrons, starting with HomeTeamNS Khatib clubhouse. Using smart systems such as the Digital Membership Card and Wrist Band QR code to access facilities empowered members to get around the facilities independently. Self-service kiosks were also set up in the clubhouses to complement the experience.

HomeTeamNS’ first native mobile app was introduced in 2022, enhancing members’ access to facilities bookings, event registrations, promotions, managing membership sign-ups and renewals, updating Car IUs, and more.

On 2 June 2023, HomeTeamNS opened Aqua Adventure, Singapore’s first integrated indoor water adventure centre. The thrilling attraction features high-speed water slides, obstacle courses and interactive splash zones, offering an exciting new way for families and friends to enjoy water-based fun.

More recently, HomeTeamNS clubhouses have become choice venues for celebrating life’s special moments and key milestones such as birthdays and weddings. Facilities such as Mancaves, East Villa, T-Play, Adventure HQ, and Laser Quest played host to joyous gatherings and unforgettable celebrations.

In celebration of its 20th Anniversary celebration, HomeTeamNS has rolled out an expanded suite of exciting benefits for members through its strategic partnership with Golden Village, Kopitiam, and Shell. Members can also look forward to the upcoming state-of-the-art clubhouse in Tengah expected to be ready by 2031.

From Boomers to Gen Z: The perfect Mother’s Day for every generation

Every mum is unique, and so is the way she celebrates. Here’s how to plan a Mother’s Day that speaks to her heart.

Mothers do it all — they nurture, they juggle, they rise to every challenge. And while we celebrate them every day in small ways, Mother’s Day (11 May 2025) is the perfect excuse to go all out.

But here’s the thing — no two mums are the same. While one might cherish a quiet, heartfelt gathering, another could be looking for adventure or indulgence. Their preferences are often shaped by the era they grew up in, influencing how they value experiences, connections and even gifts.

Whether you’re honouring your own mum, grandmother or partner, a little thoughtfulness goes a long way in creating a celebration she’ll truly love. From sentimental Boomer mums to trendsetting Gen Z mums, this guide will help you plan a Mother’s Day experience tailored just for her.

FOR THE FAMILY-ORIENTED BOOMER MUM (BORN 1946-1964)

What she loves: Quality time, heartfelt gestures, comfort and tradition. Having spent decades putting family first, Boomer mums value deep connections over extravagant gifts. A celebration filled with love, laughter and a touch of nostalgia will mean the world to her.

Make her day special with:

A trip down memory lane — Write her a heartfelt letter, create a scrapbook of precious moments or surprise her with a DIY gift made with love.

A cosy family gathering — Plan a picnic or BBQ where she can catch up with loved ones she hasn’t seen in a while. If she prefers a quiet outing, a scenic stroll through the Flower Dome or National Orchid Garden sets the perfect stage for meaningful conversations.

A meaningful hands-on experience — Head down to HomeTeamNS Khatib for a special Dear Mum celebration, where you and your Mum can create lasting memories together. Get an exclusive Mother’s Day postcard when you purchase a ticket, and sign up to craft whimsical flower bouquets using colourful pipe cleaners. Gift these handmade treasures to your mum as lasting keepsakes to remember the day by. Plus, the first 50 members will receive a personalised gift as a thoughtful memento.

A feast to remember — Treat her to her favourite comfort food, whether it’s fish head curry from Pavilion Banana Leaf (15% OFF the bill for HomeTeamNS members) or a classic dim sum spread at Peach Garden (30% OFF a la carte menu for HomeTeamNS members). If buffets are her thing, the international selection at Merchant Court is a popular choice, offering waterfront dining and 50% OFF the bill for HomeTeamNS members. Or, go for the 1-for-1 Sakura Serenity buffet at Food Capital, featuring Japanese-inspired dishes curated by Michelin-trained Chef Elson Lee, available for lunch and dinner from Mondays to Thursdays.

FOR THE PRACTICAL YET FUN-LOVING GEN X MUM (BORN 1965–1980)

What she loves: A balance of fun, relaxation, nostalgia and small indulgences. Gen X mums appreciate life’s simple pleasures but also love a well-planned surprise — especially one that’s thoughtful and practical.

Make her day special with:

A nostalgic home celebration — Cook up her favourite meal, then present it with a playlist of the songs she grew up with.

A day packed with laughter and memories — Celebrate at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok’s The Everyday Wonder Woman event on 10 May 2025, where you and Mum can create a personalised photo frame together, pen a heartfelt note for her, and bond over a fun mini game. End off the day on a sweet note by redeeming your FREE Gelato Ice Cream.

A well-deserved spa day — Book her a relaxing facial or massage for some self-care. DrSpa offers a rejuvenating Vitamin C+ facial for just $48 for HomeTeamNS members, perfect for giving her skin a radiant boost.

A tech-savvy surprise — Upgrade her gadgets with something both stylish and practical. A new projector for binge-watching K-dramas (Lumos, $55 OFF orders above $200 for HomeTeamNS members).

FOR THE WELLNESS-FOCUSED & EXPERIENCE-LOVING MILLENNIAL MUM (BORN 1981–1996)

What she loves: Wellness, self-care and experiences over material gifts. Millennial mums are often stretched thin balancing work, family and personal time. What they truly appreciate? A moment to pause, recharge and indulge in something meaningful.

Make her day special with:

A wellness retreat — Start the day with a yoga or meditation session at a scenic spot like Sentosa or Marina Barrage. Bring along a basket of nutritious treats, such as fresh juices, granolas and salads, for a healthy post-workout snack.

Shake it out with mum — Hit the dance floor together at the Zumba with Mums session at HomeTeamNS Bedok Reservoir on 10 May 2025, where you’ll groove, giggle and reconnect through the simple joy of dance. What’s more, every participant gets a goodie bag to bring home. While you’re there, stop by the Mummies Market – a specially curated marketplace for mums, where you can pick out something for her from a range of unique gift items such as perfumes, stylish apparel, gifts cards, and more.

An artistic journey — Encourage her artistic side with a pottery, art jamming or candle-making workshop. Personalising a handmade creation together makes for a fun and meaningful bonding experience.

A pampering session — Try a unique spa treatment like a salt room facial at Pablo Blau or a deep cleanse hair therapy session at Dr. Hair ($48 for HomeTeamNS members).

A functional yet stylish gift — Designer speakers from Sonos or Marshall blend practicality with aesthetics. TC Acoustic offers up to 10% OFF products like earbuds, headphones and sound bars, making it easy to upgrade her sound system.

FOR THE TRENDY AND TECH-SAVVY GEN Z MUM (BORN 1997 AND AFTER)

What she loves: Aesthetic experiences, tech-driven gifts and capturing moments for social sharing. Gen Z mums are not afraid to try new things, and embrace modern, IG-worthy celebrations that combine fun and adventure — so be prepared for a full day of activities!

Make her day special with:

A chic brunch date — Start with a picture-perfect meal at Merci Marcel, known for its tropical vibes, or Southeast Asia’s first Prada Café, where the pastel pistachio interiors are a feast for the eyes.

An Instagrammable adventure — Visit the Museum of Ice Cream for playful, candy-coloured backdrops. Parents with kids get one complimentary ticket for every two adult tickets.

A dose of thrill — Mums can be competitive, too. Challenge her to viral games like The Floor Is Lava at Triggered SG for a unique experience, now with 15% OFF standard prices for HomeTeamNS members.

Some beach club vibes — Wind down with cocktails and a sunset view at Sentosa. Whether it’s the ultra-chic private pools at +Twelve or the vibrant Barbie-pink floors at Tipsy Unicorn, this is where fun meets relaxation.

A stylish keepsake — Surprise her with a trendy handbag from popular local brand Love, Bonito, or a timeless jewellery piece that’s both elegant and modern.
