5 Fun Facts about SGT (2) (NS) Samuel Low

ONLINE EXCLUSIVE

He served with the Singapore Police Force during his National Service and protected the country then. Now, he protects both Singapore and the world through sustainability efforts!

Here are 5 fun facts about him that Frontline found out!

What do you do to relax when you’re not working?

Other than managing my teenage daughter and three-year-old kid, I read a lot, especially on historic events, either on a couch at home or at a café. I also watch a lot of cultural documentaries on YouTube.

Where is your favourite hang-out place?

Usually at a place where there is less human traffic, like a park, or at a café during off-peak hours. These places allow me to process my thoughts with the least distraction.

What type of holiday do you like?

I like to travel to places where culture can be experienced without tour guides. I find culture such as the traditions, food and local practices very interesting.

Is there anyone or a place that has particularly inspired you? Why does it inspire you?

I recall visiting this orphanage school in southern Thailand in 2012 as they wanted some pro-bono solar energy installation. I saw how those orphans were being trained by the school to survive on their own. They grew their own food, fed their own farm wildlife, made their own apparel/shoes, and utility items from natural resources. To me, this speaks volumes about sustainability and a co-existence with the environment.

What is the one thing that you can’t do without?

Good health. My health suffered when I did a lot of entertaining including drinking and smoking during my work stint in China. I’ve quit these habits and adopted a more healthy lifestyle.
