Celebrate International Volunteers Day with the Home Team’s dedicated volunteers

Every year on 5 December, we celebrate those who go out of their way to help others. Let’s hear from some of the dedicated, brave and compassionate individuals who take the time and effort to volunteer with the Home Team!

“Helping others gives meaning to our lives. As the quote by Shirley Chisholm goes: Service is the rent we pay for living on this earth.”

– Derek Tham, Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit

“I like listening to people’s stories and life experiences. It spurred me to join the prison befriending programme. It was an opportunity to help them regain their footing in society, for me to learn life lessons from unlikely teachers, and for us to step out into the world as better people together.”

– Hafifah Afif, Singapore Prison Service Volunteer (Befriender)

“The best things about the VSC are the many friends I have made along the way, both from the regular force and the volunteers. I also get to see different aspects of Singapore that I wouldn’t come into contact with as a cybersecurity engineer.”

– Lucas Kan, Volunteer Special Constabulary (VSC) Officer
