Why TransCom was honoured at the Police Day Parade 2018

March of honour  – TransCom was awarded the Best National Service Operationally Ready Unit Competition award at this year’s Police Day Parade.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) held its Police Day Parade 2018 on 3 June at the Home Team Academy.

The parade, which marked SPF’s 199th year in existence, was graced by Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law. He presented the Best National Service Operationally Ready Unit Competition (BNSORUC) award during the event.

Launched in 1997, the competition formally recognises PNS land and specialist units for their management of Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) forces, and rewards PNSmen who have displayed outstanding performances. The units are judged on a number of criteria that includes the operational readiness of PNSmen resources, professionalism and administrative excellence.

This year, Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) was honoured as the first specialist unit to win the award. The unit has managed to maintain a high overall standard – especially in the IPPT and shooting areas – despite its large number of PNSmen.

NS Commander, TransCom, DAC (NS) Jonathan Wan attributed this achievement to his officers’ high morale, which motivated them to undergo their in-camp training (ICT) sessions with pride.

He added: “We ensure regular engagement with the officers pre-ICT, during ICT, as well as post-ICT, to allow them to share any issues they may face during trainings and provide feedback to improve.”
DAC (NS) Wan will be stepping down from his NS appointment this year as he reaches his statutory run out date.

To lead TransCom in winning the BNSORUC award is the icing on the cake.
I could not have asked for a better ending to my rewarding NS journey.

Alpha and Delta divisions were both awarded first runner-up for this year’s BNSORUC.
