When a call for volunteers was put out in early May to help pack “Everyday Guardians” care packs, many readily stepped forward. Spearheaded by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and National Development Ms Sun Xueling, the initiative was a way of showing support and appreciation for the COVID-19 frontliners working in various agencies. The volunteers — comprising members from the Home Team Volunteer Network (HTVN) and officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Headquarters — packed more than 20,000 “Everyday Guardians” care packs.

To observe safe distancing measures, volunteers collected the care pack items to pack at home.

“It was a very meaningful Home Team initiative,” says Valerie Ong from the National Police Cadet Corps. “Never would we have thought that we could contribute to our frontliners even from home. Thank you frontliners and keep fighting!” Meanwhile Debby Goh, a volunteer from Victim Care Cadre, believes that, “Any form of encouragement is a great motivator for those working hard in these trying times. I work in the healthcare sector and my husband is in the Singapore Police Force; we are glad to be able to take time off our schedule to be a part of this initiative. We truly hope this gesture would help the receivers feel appreciated for their hard work.”

Many of the volunteers also roped in their family members to help with the packing. “It was a fruitful bonding activity for me and my family especially knowing that these are meant for the frontliners keeping them safe,” says the Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit’s Joelle Enver.

Thank you Frontliners for keeping Singapore safe!
