The Singapore-Global Firefighters & Paramedic Challenge 2019

Winning formula – The Singapore-Global Firefighters & Paramedic Challenge presented an opportunity for firefighters, rescuers and paramedics from around the globe to gather and compete in highly demanding scenario-based challenges.

The Singapore-Global Firefighters & Paramedic Challenge (SGFPC) was held at the Singapore Expo. The event presented a raft of complex tasks to participants from local and international teams.

Among them was the Global Challenges round in which Warrant Officer 2 Bukhary, from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, represented the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in the Braveheart (Individual) challenge. He successfully defended his title by completing it in a record time of five minutes and 12 seconds.

The SCDF also won the Rip-It-Off challenge, beating the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Western Australia (2nd), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) (3rd), Pasig City Disaster Reduction and Management Office (4th) and Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Thailand (5th).

In the Singapore Challenges round, four SCDF Divisions competed in a new Fire & Medical challenge, a Confined Space challenge and a HazMat challenge. The 4th SCDF Division emerged victorious as the Overall Winner.

One of the highlights of the programme was the SCDF Parade, an annual event that brings to the fore the development and importance of Civil Defence in Singapore. It not only signifies the commitment of SCDF personnel in saving lives and protecting properties but also provides a platform to recognise the SCDF’s partners and the community for their support.

The participants in the parade included contingents from various SCDF units, Operationally Ready National Servicemen, National Civil Defence Cadet Corps and Civil Defence Lionhearters. It was reviewed by Guest of Honour Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs.
