HomeTeamNS Movie Mania (August)

Looking for a movie to watch on the big screen? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here are some of the movies that we are keeping our eyes peeled for August:

If you’re looking for a good time with your bros:

1.       Hitman: Agent 47

When: 20 August 2015

Genre: Action, Thriller

Plot: 47, a genetically engineered agent that was created to be the most lethal assassin, involves himself with a dangerous organization called Syndicate International. Together with Katia van Dees, a young woman who is looking for her father, they team up to hunt down some answers.

From the critically acclaimed Hitman video game franchise, Hitman: Agent 47 is worth watching for number of reasons. The first reason being simple enough: Agent 47 looks way too brutal in the brand new trailer. His monologue complements the intense action scenes, and we also get a quick glance at the second reason: a picture of Marina Bay’s skyscrapers with the ArtScience Museum right smack in the middle of it before the trailer cuts to a car-chase.

So not only are we looking to see 47 in action, we are excited to see how Singapore’s landscape is going to fit into this movie.

2.       Fantastic Four

(Source: IMDB.com)

When: 6 August 2015

Genre: Action, Science Fiction

Plot: A remake of one of the oldest Marvel superhero group, the upcoming Fantastic Four film is centred on four teenagers who teleport to an alternate universe and find themselves with superhero powers. Together, they must defeat Dr. Doom, a familiar face in the Marvel universe.

Ten years later, one of the oldest superhero groups in Marvel is making their comeback on the big screen. Only this time, they are bringing along with them new faces with the same old powers. So why are we keeping a reboot (of a mediocre film at that) in our must-watch list?

With an average IMDB rating of 5.7 out of 10 stars, the Fantastic Four franchise certainly wasn’t the best work from Marvel. But we must admit that the comic book/film enterprise has been on a roll with a series of big hits (remember Avengers?). It even has us biting our nails with its exciting line-up for the next three years.

Much anticipation comes to Marvel’s latest reboot.

3.       Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation

When: 30 July 2015

Genre: Action, Adventure, Thriller

Plot: Ethan Hunt makes a comeback as a rogue agent and assembles his team as he faces threats from the Syndicate, a near-mythical organization of assassins and rogue operatives who kill to order.

Let’s be honest – the moment this title came on, the famous tune from ‘Mission: Impossible’ started playing in your head.

Well, that’s not the only thing that the movie is famous for. The film is filled with a myriad of heart-stopping moments, antics you didn’t know were physically possible and of course, A-list actor Tom Cruise. If that’s not enough reason to watch it, its predecessor, ‘Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol’, scored a rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed over SGD$950 million in the box office. Having set the bar for the upcoming movie, expect to see critics and fans of the movie franchise holding their bated breaths for this one.

4.       Inside Out

When: 27 August 2015

Genre: Adventure, Animation

Plot: Riley, a teenage girl, has little beings living inside her psyche. Each of them represent the different emotions – Anger, Joy, Disgust, Sadness and Fear. After a mistake by Sadness that leaves Riley depressed, Joy and Sadness journey through the human mind to retrieve something that will restore her spirits.

“Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head?”

A light-hearted take by Disney and Pixar, the movie ‘Inside Out’ shows us just how much these anthropomorphised emotions function inside our minds and control us, ultimately influencing the decisions we make in situations.

In the movie’s trailer, we get a first look at how the individualistic emotions come together and make a situation happen. In the case of the trailer, it’s the exchange between a troubled Riley and her parents that ultimately, ends up in comical disaster. Guaranteed to make the older audience smile with its witty and ‘I-can-relate-to-that’ moments, Inside Out will also leave the little ones captivated with the vibrant colours running through its world.
