From juggling professional responsibilities \u2014 including his role as a member of HomeTeamNS\u2019 Branding &amp; Publicity Committee \u2014 to making time for family and personal pursuits, Irwan\u2019s mobility choices have always revolved around one thing: Practicality.<\/p><p>His motoring journey began in 2000 with a modest Toyota Belta, bought fresh out of school. Each upgrade since has been shaped by a need for fuel efficiency and function over flash. Among them, one car stands out: The hybrid Kia Niro. \u201cThat car was with me when I met my current wife. It even ferried us to our wedding!\u201d he shares.<\/p><p>Now 45, Irwan swears by his latest ride: The fully electric <a href=\"https:\/\/www.byd.com\/sg\/car\/atto3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BYD Atto 3<\/a>. For him, the benefits are clear \u2014 lower running costs, improved comfort and an unexpected level of convenience. \u201cI\u2019m surprised by the technological feats of Chinese-made cars,\u201d he enthuses. \u201cThey are no longer what we perceive them to be. Still, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/ltagov\/en\/industry_innovations\/technologies\/electric_vehicles.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Singapore\u2019s growing push towards electric mobility<\/a> kept him optimistic. \u201cI knew this would change over time with improvements in battery range and technology. And because the government was very pro-EVs \u2014 with incentives for early adopters \u2014 this would be my next target!\u201d<\/p><p>The Regional IT Lead finally made the switch when he saw newer models from Chinese EV maker BYD \u2014 including the Seal, Dolphin and Atto 3 \u2014 boasting ranges of over 420km. \u201cOnce I saw that, as well as the growing EV infrastructure near my home and the incentives offered by my workplace for using an EV, I knew the time was right to take the leap,\u201d he says.<\/p><p>When it came time to choose, the BYD Atto 3, an electric Sports Utility Vehicle, stood out for its generous space, solid pricing and rising reputation.<\/p><p><!--StartFragment--><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6fa9a09 e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6fa9a09\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e1d4709 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"e1d4709\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-63af69d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"63af69d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">CHARGED UP FOR LIFE<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d2dbcd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0d2dbcd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>While early EV adopters feared range anxiety and limited chargers, Irwan has found ways to adapt seamlessly. \u201cWe should always be adaptable, so long as we\u2019re aware of the benefits. When charging the car, I\u2019d go for meals or shopping \u2014 it became a way to make use of time positively. All major malls have charging stations, and with more coming to our HDB heartlands, this didn\u2019t concern me anymore.\u201d With a growing network of EV chargers including those conveniently located at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hometeamns.sg\/ev-charging-stations\/\">all HomeTeamNS clubhouses<\/a>, it is now easier than ever for drivers like Irwan to fit charging into their daily routines. A full charge on a fast DC charger is about $45, while a slower AC charge costs about $25. That\u2019s a fraction of what I used to spend on petrol,\u201d he shares. Though EV ownership comes with slightly higher road tax and insurance premiums, Irwan feels that the savings on daily running costs far outweigh the extra fees.<\/p><p>He&#8217;s even optimistic about cross-border drives. \u201cI\u2019ve heard from friends that there are charging stations along the North-South Highway, so KL road trips are definitely in the pipeline.\u201d<\/p><p>Now almost two years into EV ownership, Irwan is more convinced than ever that he made the right decision. His lifestyle hasn\u2019t been disrupted, his wallet thanks him and he\u2019s no longer spending time at petrol stations. \u201cIf you\u2019re considering it, do your research and understand your own driving habits. You\u2019ll find that an EV fits better than expected \u2014 especially with how quickly infrastructure is improving,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd remember, buses and taxis are making the switch too.
