someone special to be a dad.\u201d On this special Father\u2019s Day feature, Mr Shankar Tarakad, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mha.gov.sg\/volunteers\/home-team-volunteer-scheme\/detail\/Details\/citizens-on-patrol-(cop)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citizens on Patrol (COP)<\/a> volunteer, shares his story of being a father and a Home Team volunteer.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section COMMUNITY<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ca031cc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ca031cc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As a COP volunteer, Shankar works with a team of volunteers to keep the area around River Valley, Havelock and Lower Delta safe. <span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">They patrol in groups of four or more, ready to answer any questions raised by residents.<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> He <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">shared,<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> \u201cThe goal is to allow <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">the <\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">residents to reach out to us when we <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">patrol <\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">while keeping a visible presence of law, <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">and<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">\u00a0keep Singapore safe.\u201d <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">Additionally,<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> Mr Shankar also volunteers as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mha.gov.sg\/volunteers\/home-team-volunteer-scheme\/detail\/Details\/crime-prevention-ambassador-ncpc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crime Prevention Ambassador (CPA)<\/a>, <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">which is also part of<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> the Home Team Volunteer <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">Shankar emphasised, <\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">\u201cAs a father, I believe children<\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> will<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> learn by <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">example when<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> they see <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">their<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> parents stepping out <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">to do something meaningful like volunteering. It allows<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> them to see another <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">perspective<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> of <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">life. This<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> is something I truly believe in.\u201d <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">Since young, his children have witnessed their parents volunteering in<\/span><span class=\"undefined diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\"> many other organisations such as the Community Paying it Forward (CPF) and Samaritans of Singapore <\/span><span class=\"diff-chunk_diffChunkInserted__DlyJg diff-chunk_diffChunkModified__NMQd9 diff-chunk_active__Ag__c\">(SOS).<\/span><\/p><p>Through his volunteering efforts, his children learned that there is a positive impact in helping the community.<\/p><p>His son, Anshul Shankar, who is currently serving his national service with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, as well as his daughter, Anusha Shankar, mentioned that their parents passionately spend their free time volunteering and share with them their voluntary work experiences. Besides giving crime prevention advices, patrolling comes with many \u201cperks\u201d. For example, Shankar now knows which fruit shop sells fresher and cheaper products than supermarkets.
