Singapore’s 50th birthday is round the corner! To join in on the SG50 celebrations, HomeTeamNS has a few ideas on how to spend your long weekend.

1. Gear up for an entire day of action & adventure

Universal Studio Singapore® (USS®) fits the bill with its variety of themed areas, spunky mascots that are familiar faces and exhilarating rides. From Hollywood’s glitzy style to the mysterious Lost World that’s reminiscent of the Jurassic World series, you can see your favourite blockbusters come to life.

Daredevils are in for a treat with the adrenaline-pumping, and gravity-defying Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON™ rollercoaster! You could also try the TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle and Mummy rides.

If rollercoasters are not your thing, there are plenty of other attractions such as the latest Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey, Shrek’s Castle, as well as  the adorable roving mascots.

2. Trip down memory lane

A blast from the past, the Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia with Toys (MINT) Museum is the world’s first purpose-built museum for toys, and it’s located right here in Singapore.

Traditional kampong games like chaptek (shuttlecock) and batu serembat (five stones) and more are bound to leave you with a serious case of childhood nostalgia, as you walk down the aisles to look at the vintage toys, which are displayed behind glass casings.

When you’re feeling puckish, there’s the old-school gastropub named Mr Punch Public House that’s situated right inside the museum as well. A good selection of cocktails, beers and decadent items on the menu like truffle fries and risotto makes it a good spot to chill after a day of walking down the memory lane.

It’s the place where all dreams and fantasies come ALIVE!

Or at least, look alive. Dubbed as Korea’s original and biggest Illusionary Entertainment Museum, ALIVE Museum has arrived in Singapore and brings with it 3D visual effects of more than 80 art pieces.

Inside, you can grow wings, be hit by Ryu from Streetfighter, saved by Superman and be part of more illusionary tricks. To make it easier, photo points and pose points will be indicated on various parts of the exhibits to help you deliver a great photo!

Funfact: The ALIVE Museum keeps things fresh by changing 30% of its art pieces every year!

4. Catch up with old friends over lunch

Remember that friend that you used to hang out in secondary school?

This long weekend would be a good opportunity to catch up with them over a steaming pot of tasty soup or tantalising barbeque buffet at a place like Seoul Garden. Seoul Garden, a Korean and halal-restaurant that specializes in its buffet, is a good spot to chill out with your loved ones.

While you munch on piping hot food that’s freshly picked from the bubbling pot, you may even find your friends and yourself talking for hours, just like good old times. If the buffet isn’t for you, you can opt for the set meal, which consists of an appetizer, main course and drink at the affordable price of $10!

After a good meal at Seoul Garden, you can always burn it off and take a stroll along Orchard road to bask in the rows of shops and premium goods in this shopping haven. Though this plan will not be too exciting or anything out of the ordinary, it’ll be the essence of nostalgic conversations you have with an old friend that counts.

For the $10 set meal, terms and conditions apply. For more info, visit the promotions page.

5. Staying at home with your loved ones

One of the simplest things that you can do during a long weekend is to stay at home. But remember to keep it classy; try dishing up your signature dish for a romantic candlelit dinner between you and your partner.

With soft tunes playing in the background, a lavish spread laid out on the dining table and a nice glass of wine, you are set for a romantic evening. Plus, we have clinched a special price for the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2014 and Perrior-Jouet Grand Brut Champagne from Cru. Imagine washing down a hearty meal of grilled lamb chops with the citrusy Sauvignon Blanc, or delicate Champagne to go with some mustard-glazed Cod fish.
