Brief Background of CDANS & SPANS
In an effort to recognise the invaluable contributions made by Civil Defence and Police National Servicemen towards the security of our nation and to strengthen their sense of belonging to the two Home Team Forces, the Civil Defence Association for National Servicemen (CDANS) and Singapore Police Association for National Servicemen (SPANS) were established in 1992.
CDANS was formerly known as the Civil Defence Reservists’ Association (CDRA). A Town Clubhouse at Marina Square was temporarily set up in order to provide immediate benefits to CDANS members while awaiting the completion of a permanent Clubhouse. The Bukit Batok Clubhouse was officially opened in 1998 and is currently still operating simultaneously with two other Clubhouses at Chinatown and Sembawang.
SPANS had its first Town Clubhouse at Paragon. The Clubhouse moved to Orchard Building in 1998 before relocating to its present location at UE Square Shopping Mall in 2001. A new Clubhouse at Balestier opened its doors to SPANS members in the same year. Both Clubhouses are still in operation today. |

A New Beginning…A New Name, HomeTeamNS
HomeTeamNS is a merger between the former Singapore Civil Defence Association for National Servicemen (CDANS) and the Singapore Police Association for National Servicemen (SPANS). As the Civil Defence and Police Forces have to work hand in hand to safeguard Singapore’s security, the merger between CDANS and SPANS creates a shared environment for NSmen from both Forces to foster better relations. HomeTeamNS was officially launched by Home Affairs Minister Mr Wong Kan Seng on 24 April 2005.

Following the merger between the two Associations, a new name – HomeTeamNS, has been adopted for the new Association. The name had been chosen to reinforce the Home Team identity as well as to bring the Police NSmen, Civil Defence NSmen and their families closer to the larger Home Team community.
HomeTeamNS has a total of six Clubhouses catered for the varying needs of its members and their families. The Clubhouses are conveniently located at Bukit Batok, Balestier, Pasir Ris, Sembawang, Smith Street and UE Square.

HomeTeamNS Logo
The HomeTeamNS logo was designed by one of our members, SC/SGT Teo Chin Poa Arron, who came up with a vibrant and contemporary look that embodies the association’s youth and family-oriented focus. |
The integration of CDANS and SPANS is incorporated in the logo as reflected by the 2 colours of blue and orange. This combination of colours depicts the aim of achieving better cohesion and solidarity between the NSmen of SCDF and SPF.
The acronym “NS” in the flame symbolises the Home Team spirit of energy, dedication and undying commitment that the NSmen serving our nation possess.
The blue rectangular box that serves as a background to the word “Team” reflects the strong foundation of the association with the merger of both CDANS and SPANS.
The word “Home” represents the primary role of the Civil Defence and Police NSmen in ensuring a safe and secure environment for Singaporeans to live in.
